To recap 2007, I had planned to write an elaborate post reviewing some of the top movies, bands, and comics that I’d enjoyed throughout the year. Instead, here’s a quick list of my favorites. With bonus pens section!

Comics

The Sword — The latest endeavor brought to you by The Luna Brothers. It’s the story of a young wheelchair-bound girl whose life is turned upside-down when three strangers in search of a sword enter her home, slaughter her family, and leave her for dead. She mistakenly discovers the sword, only to find it has more in store for her than she could ever imagine.

Black Summer — A member of a disbanded super-powered team turns on the very country he has sworn to protect. The remaining team members are forced to regroup, defend themselves from their own country, and track their former teammate.

Optic NerveAdrian Tomine’s ongoing series features down to earth characters with stories that hit very close to home.

Movies

Casino Royale — Pleasantly surprised by Daniel Craig as the new James Bond.

Live Free Or Die Hard — Another wild roller-coaster ride starring the man that just won’t die.

300 — Testosterone, guts, and violence fuel this gorgeous film.

The Prestige — Dark, complex and highly entertaining.

Music

Here are some singles that I couldn’t get enough of.

Snowden – “Between The Rent And Me”
Georgie James – “Need Your Needs”
The New Pornographers – “My Rights Vs. Yours”
Junior Senior – “Can I Get Get Get”
Rogue Wave – “Lake Michigan”
Iron and Wine – “Boy With A Coin”

Pens

Oh the joys of Japanese pens. I’ve always been one for a fine tip and thought 0.5mm was the smallest I would be able to find. I stumbled across JetPens while looking at Moleskines. They have great products, excellent prices, and free shipping for any order over $25.

Pilot HI-TEC-C Coleto — All of your multi-pen lameness mixed with all of your choose-your-own-adventure style ink refills at 0.3mm and 0.4mm. So many colors to choose from, but the damn thing only holds 3 at a time.

Pentel Slicci — Sleek, light-weight, dare I say elegant in appearance? Available in 0.25mm and 0.3mm.

Pilot Slim Knock — Shrunken, mini, voodoo head of HI-TEC-Cs.

Uni-ball Signo DX — Can go toe-to-toe with the Slicci in performance but in my opinion a better balanced pen.
