I always welcome anyone to create a “superhero” story and I’m pleased when it’s actually good. In this new series, several individuals discover that they have unique abilities and they’re in some way connected to each other. The invincible cheerleader, a druggie artist that paints the future and a Japanese programmer who can manipulate space and time are just a few examples of the individuals who will play some role in saving humankind. What intrigues me about this show is watching the journey each character takes in discovering their powers, finding other people just like them and facing the greater evil presense that exists to destroy them.

In this 3rd season the Cylons have now occupied the inhabitants of New Caprica. The fleet has jumped to safety and plan on rescuing the people they had to leave behind. Meanwhile there’s an internal struggle within the Cylon hierarchy and the Resistance is building momentum against them. There’s something about sci-fi shows like these that immediately gets me hooked. It’s that sense of hopelessness that keeps me coming back for more.

The 2nd season kicks off with the brothers on the run. They’re in search of DB Cooper’s stash and as usual, the well-laid plan doesn’t always pan out. Again, hopelessness plays a part here. You want the brothers to succeed, but there’s always some obstacle that gets them off track.

A lot has happened in the past 2 seasons and there’s more in store. Jack, Kate and Sawyer have been captured by the Others. We learn that the Others are part of the Dharma Initiative and have been on the island for some time. Two episodes into the 3rd season and I’m still confused and a little frustrated, but I’m sticking with it. At least I know where the polar bear came from.
