There are many good things about home ownership: no neighbors above your head, a garage to park your car, and a big backyard for the kids. That last one can occupy a lot of time. We had 3 cubic yards of mulch delivered on Thursday. I took Friday off, knowing it was going to be a busy day. Thursday night, I went out to make sure all the beds were ready for mulch. I loaded up the wheelbarrow and then Cindy pointed out that the wheel was completely flat. I spent the rest of the night getting air back into that tire. I don’t know why something so simple turned out to take so much time and energy.

On Friday, I awoke to rain. We had a huge pile of mulch blocking the driveway and it was raining. As soon as there was a momentary break in the rain, I got to work doing what was supposed to be done Thursday night. Maybe an hour later, it started storming. It was already 9am and I was nowhere near ready to put mulch down.

Around 11am the rain let up, and I got back to work. According to the weather forecast, I had about 2-3 hours before the rain started up again. About 12:30pm, Joshi stopped by to help. Let me tell you, the extra set of hands was greatly appreciated. Not only did we get all the mulch put down, but we were able to get the edging for all the beds in the back dug. That was a lot of work and I think we were out there until 4pm. I’m really happy with the way things turned out. I don’t know about Joshi, but I was wiped out. After a couple beers, a shower, and some dinner, I was ready for an evening on the couch. The joys of home ownership are never without hard work.
