ZombiesMost trips home from work are generally pretty boring. I tune into WEFT while I drive and lately it’s more for background noise than anything. Recently on my way home, zoning out as usual, I spotted an odd bumper sticker on the car in front of me. It read, “I feed on the flesh of the living…AND I VOTE!” This got my attention. What was this guy trying to say? What political message was behind this statement? I mean, the image of lumbering zombies at the polls on election day really got me thinking. What would they base their votes on? Which candidate promised the most brains? Braaaains…BRAAAAINS! Since there’s no organized party, I guess they’d just vote Republican.

The subject of zombies has been on my mind lately. How to kill them, what makes them tick, and why brains? Why not spleens? Spleeeens…SPLEEEENS! Looking for something new to read, I picked up the first volume of the trade paperback The Walking Dead based on a recommendation. The story centers around a small town cop who awakens from a coma to discover a world overrun with zombies. Now, I’m not a zombie guy and I don’t like slasher films or horror flicks, but that’s not quite what this book is about. The main theme is survival. Getting from one day to the next wondering if each one might be your last. It’s quite a rollercoaster ride.

If you find yourself looking for a good zombie drama, swing by your local comic book store and grab the first volume. And since we’re still talking about zombies, rent Shaun Of The Dead, a romatic comedy with zombies. You won’t be disappointed.
